Customers find our services too complex

The internal improvement division of a global corporation was getting feedback from its customers that their products and services were too complex and too difficult to use.

Business Simplification were engaged to provide a one hour How to Keep it Simple without Dumbing it Down workshop, plus follow up, to the group's annual convention. The aim was to re-focus the group on the need to build simplicity into their offering and to provide them with techniques for doing so. The group took away new language and concepts which formed a new, simplicity-focused, foundation on which to build and remodel its products, effectively increasing the return which the corporation was achieving from its investment in the division.

Difficulty implementing change at the front-line

A key division of a large finance institution was having trouble creating a culture of quality at the front-line. High level strategies were in place but were not positively effecting behaviour change at the customer interface.

Our DIY Results program was rolled out across the division, eventually providing 100 first level team leaders and line managers with face-to-face training. Over 800 staff were involved in the program by participating in improvement projects directly relating to their workplaces. Financial savings in the hundreds of thousands were made along with renewed enthusiasm for change and quality improvement at all levels.

We're holding it together, but the pressure is unsustainable

The distribution arm of a major food manufacturer was providing excellent service to its customers. But only because a few key people were holding things together. These people were working unreasonably long hours and showing signs of increased stress. The company recognised the likelihood that something would eventually give, and when it did, customer service would fall away rapidly.

Analysing the current workflows and practices revealed overuse of paperwork and poor understanding between departments. Providing advice, analysis and facilitation, we worked with a team to simplify the key processes, cutting the workload by 30% and lowering both the level of pressure and the reliance on certain individuals.

We want to plan but are too buried in the business to 'stand back'

Like many senior managers, our client had lots of great ideas but neither the time nor head space to turn them into action or even to discuss them with his staff.

We developed a Planning Retreat program at which we worked with the manager and his team to not only develop and facilitate a clearly understood future direction, but also to develop a plan for implementing this new direction and actually making it happen.

We've run numerous Time Management programs, but rarely with sustainable benefits

Most time management programs ignore one key issue: most managers have only between 10% and 20% of their own time to manage. The rest is subject to interruption and reaction to both senior management and staff demands.

Our 'Back to Basics' Time Management workshop provided participants with a 'ground-up' look at time management. By focusing on the fundamentals, participants were able to work with their teams, colleagues and managers to develop time management approaches uniquely relevant to their own situation.
