| Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly do you do?We see ourselves as having two roles. First, we want to 'spread the word': to inspire and motivate managers to look at the world through a new set of glasses and to focus more effort on making things more simple. Depending on your circumstances, we can provide that inspiration to you and your team through talks, workshops or written materials like David Brewster's book. Second, we aim to provide hands-on support to managers and their staff in the simplification process. Again, we vary the way we do this to best suit your circumstances. Business review, custom-built training and education programs, project facilitation, advice to management teams and one-on-one coaching are some of the ways we do this. If you haven't already, please browse through our Services section for more information. Alternatively, call or email us to discuss your own specific circumstances and needs. Do you work with computers and I.T.?Although David Brewster has an I.T. qualification, we seldom work directly with I.T. related projects. We do, however, believe that I.T. decisions need to be made on with simplicity in mind. So we can help you clarify what it is you want to get out of an I.T. investment and help you set yourself up for confident discussions with I.T. vendors. We can also help you review your current systems and procedures: a critical step which should be taken before you start thinking about any investment in new technology. Can't Simplicity be taken too far?Definitely. Achieving the optimum level of Simplicity without 'dumbing down' your organization can be a difficult process. While simplicity in a management sense is fundamentally about making things easier, actually achieving it is rarely a simple process. But none of that means that you shouldn't start, or that you shouldn't adopt simplicity as a value in your organisation. Quite the opposite. It is precisely because simplicity takes time that it needs to be something you embed within the way your business thinks, rather than something you see as a short term 'magic bullet'. Do the ideas here relate to small or large business? Both. The best results for any organisation will come when simplicity is adopted as an organisation-wide value. That is easier to do in a small organisation. However, if you are a middle or senior manager in a large organisation, there is much you can do within your own 'sphere of influence'. I am yet to find an organisation that cannot benefit from making its work easier to do or its products and services easier to use. All it takes is some creative thought. I have another question...Please email us (enquire@businesssimplification.com.au) with your question and we will come back to you with an answer.
